Partnership Opportunities

We strive to build mutually beneficial partnerships with community organizations in each of our programs and we value these partners as co-educators of our students. Community partners are encouraged to contact OLCE to discuss how their needs can be met through collaboration with our programs. Below you can find information on our programs ranging from event partnerships, project partnerships, and sustained partnerships.

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is a leading student-centered university, linking the Piedmont Triad to the world through learning, discovery and service. UNCG’s motto of “Service” is carried out in numerous ways across campus as students are encouraged to become involved in the life of the community. Essential to this mission is developing and maintaining strong partnerships with local agencies, schools, nonprofit organizations and government agencies. The Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement (OLCE) strives to be a bridge between the campus and the greater community.

Partnership Opportunities

GivePulse – GivePulse is our online service platform containing information about community organizations in Greensboro and beyond. Information includes everything from contact information, volunteer positions, community-based research questions and more. New organizations can check out GivePulse here.

OLCE Weekly Announcements – During the academic year we send out weekly announcements about upcoming civic and community engagement opportunities to 3,000 students, staff, and faculty. We also include on-campus events, conference and professional development opportunities, and internship and job announcements that are related to civic leadership and service. If you would like to submit an announcement to our weekly listerv please email [email protected] with the subject line: “For OLCE Weekly Announcements”. Note: Internships can also be formally posted with the UNCG Career and Professional Development.

Volunteer & Service-Learning Fair – This annual on-campus fair typically hosts about 50 community organizations and attracts close to 300 students looking for opportunities to volunteer in the Greensboro community. This event typically happens during the first week in late August/ early September.

Add your partnership to “The Collaboratory” – an effort by UNCG’s Institute for Community and Economic Engagement (ICEE), this database of community-UNCG partnerships provides a portrait of the community engagement landscape at UNCG.

Posting Internships, Part-Time & Full-Time Jobs – Organizations offering part-time, full-time, and internship opportunities are welcome to make an account and post their positions on Handshake. Other ways to connect with UNCG Career and Professional Development include attending Career Fairs or hosting information tables and coffee carts. Short Term Partnerships

Spartan Service Day – Part of UNCG’s fall semester kickoff called “Rawkin’ Welcome Week,” Spartan Service Day takes place on the first Saturday after classes begin (usually late August). Groups of students will be transported from campus to your organization to complete 3 hours of service. Past projects include mural painting, trail maintenance, litter clean-ups, engaging youth/seniors, sorting donations, and many more. Information for students regarding this day can be found on our Community Service Page.

Catalyst – Catalyst is a Saturday program where groups of 10-15 students engage in meaningful community service and be a spark for change! Students have the opportunity to learn about the social and environmental issues that have an impact on our community, serve alongside community partners in the triad, and reflect on experiences as a group. This past year included projects linked to food insecurity, animal welfare, refugee populations, and more. MLK Day of Service – Each January, UNCG celebrates the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by organizing a day of service that work to connect students to MLK’s message of a unified community and the value of service. Much like Spartan Day of Service we will invite our community partners to register any service projects they may have.

Become a Silver Leadership Coach

Program Background– UNCG is committed to providing students with leadership education, training, and development. The three-tiered Leadership Challenge program helps students work on personal growth initiatives, identify behavioral tendencies, and learn how their actions impact the process of leadership.

What is leadership development coaching?-Coaching is “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.” (from the International Coach Federation)

What does a leadership development coach do?– You’ll support students through the process of achieving specific personal or professional results within their leadership development through individualized coaching sessions.

Through these sessions, you will assist participants in developing personal, professional, and academic goals, and challenge them to find answers from within based on their values, preferences, experiences, and unique perspectives.

What kind of training will I receive?

The initial training will cover coaching vs. counseling, facilitation tools, helping students identify goals, leadership skills assessment and more. You also have the opportunity to attend monthly educational sessions. These sessions will provide you with the tools you need to become an effective coach.

Benefits of becoming a coach:

There are many benefits to becoming a leadership development coach! You will prepare students for a lifetime of active citizenship and ethical leadership – so these students may become the next leaders in their community. In addition, you will develop your own skills in areas such as active listening, guided discovery, and reflective practices.

Program commitments and expectations:

As a Leadership Development Coach, you will accept a coaching term of one academic year.

Sessions are typically 30-45 minutes long and will involve 20-30 minutes of planning/preparation per session.

Your Responsibilities:

Attend training to become a Leadership Development Coach
When possible, attend the monthly professional development sessions
Facilitate six individual coaching sessions with each student assigned to you (ideally 3 in the fall, 3 in the spring)
Champion participants through the creation and development of goals
Keep and maintain coaching notes
Maintain open and consistent communication with OLCE

About the Client/Coach Relationship:

The program expects that students can count on their coach to support their personal aspirations and leadership growth by asking questions, making observations, and providing a safe, supportive space in which these topics can be discussed.

The coach can count on the student to be committed to the program and follow through with requirements. Students may also need to work outside of the coaching sessions so that they arrive prepared to engage, be open to feedback and challenge current beliefs.

Both will be committed to the Client/Coach relationship. The Client and Coach may choose to discontinue the coaching relationship at any point in the program.
