Community-Based Research Grants
Community-based research (CBR) involves faculty, students and community members in the design and implementation of research projects that take place in community settings. OLSL offers $1000 stipends to full-time faculty who design, implement, and report on a CBR project that is conducted during the academic year. (note: Additional CBR grants may be available in early spring to be used for summer research.) UNCG's Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) offers an additional $1000 to undergraduate students involved in the research. Project grants total $2000. Each CBR team must consist of at least one faculty member, one student, and one community agency member. The deadline for proposal submissions is Monday, October 1, 2008, by 5:00 p.m. EST. Applicants will be notified by Wednesday, October 15, 2008.
International Service-Learning Grants
OLSL provides curriculum development grants for faculty interested in developing a short-term faculty-led student trip to another country. The stipend award must result in an undergraduate course for academic credit that includes international and service-learning components. The stipend is for $2,500. The deadline for proposal submissions is Monday, November 1, 2008. Applicants will be notified by Monday, December 8, 2008.
Service-Learning Curriculum Development Grants
OLSL provides course development grants for faculty interested in developing semester- or year-long courses that implement service-learning into the curriculum. The stipend award must result in an undergraduate or graduate course that is designated as service-learning. For more information about how to obtain the UNCG "SVL" designation for your new course, existing course, or course section please go to http://olsl.uncg.edu/engage/service . Stipends range from $250 to $1000. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
Service-Learning Faculty Fellow
The Faculty Fellow program promotes faculty development and the scholarship of engagement by integrating service, research and teaching. The program is designed to increase the quality and quantity of various forms of public scholarship (service-learning, community-based research, action research, and the like), through education, outreach and advocacy activities within UNCG and beyond. The Faculty Fellow reports to Dr. Cathy Hamilton, Director of the Office of Leadership and Service-Learning, and receives her/his choice of course release or a stipend of $3500. A call for nominations will be publicized in Spring 2009.
Conference Registration
UNCG is a member campus of North Carolina Campus Compact, a coalition of colleges and universities collaborating to increase campus-wide participation in community and public service. We invite you to present and attend NCCC's annual conference Pathways to Achieving Civic Engagement (P.A.C.E.). Topics include community-based research, philanthropy and campus-community partnership development. Conference Date: February 11, 2008, at Elon University. Presentation proposals due to NCCC: November 7, 2008. Please contact OLSL if you would like assistance developing a proposal. To request conference registration funds, please contact OLSL by January 5, 2009. (Note: Funding is contingent on NCCC's acceptance of the presentation proposal.)

Advancement of Teaching and Learning Grants
These University grants are designed to enable faculty or faculty groups to pursue special projects in instructional development, course development, curricular reform, enhancement of instruction and courses with technology, research in teaching and learning, and interdisciplinary activities. The deadline for the next cycle of grants will be in November 2008. NC-ACTS! Service Award - North Carolina-Activating Citizenship Through Service!
NC-ACTS! is a program of North Carolina Campus Compact (NCCC) involving 350 (2006-2007) individual NC-ACTS! AmeriCorps Members from participating schools across the state. Each NC-ACTS! AmeriCorps Member will serve 300 hours in one academic year in a field relating to education, human needs, or volunteer recruitment. In exchange for this valuable community service, NC-ACTS! AmeriCorps Members receive $1000 to be used to pay back school loans or to finance undergraduate and graduate school, or to pay for vocational training. Grants from the UNCG Office of Research
The Office of Research and Public/Private Sector Partnerships provides intramural research support in the form of competitive grants for which faculty can apply. These funds are to be used to initiate or enhance research, scholarship, and creative activity to make faculty more competitive to obtain extramural funds. There are three types of intramural grants. a. New Faculty Research Grants
These grants are awarded to untenured, tenure-track faculty below the rank of professor in their first year of appointment. Applicants may request up to $5000. The deadline is the last working day of January 2009.
b. Regular Faculty Research Grants
These grants are awarded to tenured, tenure-track, and clinical and applied professional faculty. Applicants may request up to $5000. The deadline is the last working day of September 2008.
c. Summer Excellence Research Grants
These grants are awarded to untenured, tenure-track faculty and are used exclusively for summer salary ($5000). The deadline is the last working day of September 2008.
