2009-10 Americorps VISTA hired

Friday, July 24, 2009
By alkeith

EmilyKEmily Kamischke has been hired as the 2009-2010 Americorps VISTA in the OLSL. She is taking over for outgoing VISTA Lauren Smalley.

Originally from Colorado, Emily graduated from Elon University this May with a BA in Communications with a Religious Studies minor. At Elon, she served as the Director of Alternative Break Trips in the Kernodle Center for Service-Learning.

Emily worked closely with Elon’s VISTA all through her college career, which motivated her decision to join the AmeriCorps VISTA program. “When thinking about my future,” she said, “I decided that being a VISTA would be a great starting point because I love helping students understand what service-learning is all about and helping them to become better leaders.”

Before choosing UNCG, Emily researched all the Campus Compact partners in North Carolina. She chose UNCG because she “was looking for a program that was well-established and a program that would be a challenge and a break” from what she was familiar with.

In her free time, Emily enjoys playing, practicing and watching Ultimate Frisbee. She also loves hiking, skiing and camping in the outdoors.
