For Community Partners

Through the development of community partnerships with government and nonprofit agencies, the Office of Leadership and Service-Learning acts as a clearinghouse to provide opportunities for UNCG students to become involved in service and civic engagement. The OLSL also strives to treat community partners as co-educators, seeking an enhanced relationship that mutually benefits both the student and the agency.

There are several ways to collaborate with UNCG:

  • Add your organization to our “My Service” database and post your volunteer opportunities.
    • Fill out the Community Partner Volunteer Request Form so that the OLSL can help students find volunteer sites, help faculty find service-learning partners, and help staff contact agencies for special events or projects. You can access the form here: Community Partner Volunteer Request Form.
    • Remember to fill out a Community Partner Volunteer Request Form for EACH new service opportunity.
    • If you are having trouble filling a particular opening, please let us know so we can do “specialized” recruiting (e.g. contact student groups or academic departments that may be a good fit).
    • Remember that it is the agency’s responsibility to screen potential volunteers for suitability.
  • Become a service-learning partner and work with a professor to develop opportunities for students in a class to apply their learning in a real-world setting. Learn more about service-learning courses.
  • Develop questions that you have regarding your agency’s needs and advertise them to faculty and students looking for community-based research questions. Faculty and students are always looking for new community-based research opportunities. Learn more about community-based research.
  • Get involved on the Community Engagement Advisory Board and help direct UNCG and the OLSL in their partnering efforts.
  • Work with us as a “Semester of Service” partner and help students develop their leadership skills through service.
  • Do you already have UNCG students working with your organization? Our Peer Council is a team of students who act as liaisons between UNCG and specific community partners.
  • UNCG offers several one-time service events for students throughout the year. Contact the OLSL if your organization would be interested in becoming a service site for any of these events.
  • Join our community partner listserv to get e-mail updates from the OLSL about upcoming events and opportunities for community partners! Just send an email to olsl@uncg.edu with your organization name and e-mail address to get on the list.

What’s the best way to get started? Just contact our office by calling (336) 256-0538 or e-mail olsl@uncg.edu to start learning how you can partner!
