Below are 19 of our pre-selected workshop themes. While our themes are pre-selected, none of our workshops look the same!  Each workshop is customized to fit the needs of each organization.   We are also happy to create a workshop around a theme of your choice.


Budgeting Strategies for Your Organization

Description:  At this workshop, organizations will learn how to create, develop, and maintain a budget to achieve their goals. Organizations will also understand how budgeting affects their future and creative strategies for managing their funds.  

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will understand how to create, develop, and maintain a budget that helps their organization
  • achieve their goals. Students will understand how to reduce their budget and know a variety of methods of how to earn money for their organization.

Constructive Conflict Management

Description: Conflict occurs whether we like it or not. It can be something small or extremely large, the question here is:  how do you handle your conflict?  The ability to effectively manage conflict is a crucial factor regarding an individual or organization’s success. This workshop will introduce different strategies to productively transform conflict and reformat into a more successful group as well as exploring the various types of conflict management.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will understand the impact conflict can have on organizations & benefits to effectively managing it.
  • Students will be able to identify potential sources of conflict in their organizations.
  • Students will be able to describe the five types of conflict management consistent with the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument.
  • Students will be able to explain effective strategies for collaboration and compromise.

 

Create an Effective Team

Description:  “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” ~ Henry Ford. This workshop will cover the basics of what it means to put together an effective team, whether in professional or academic settings. Participants will understand the different roles and dynamics that go into the creation of an effective team in order to help their organization thrive.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will understand the different roles that make up a team.
  • Students will be able to create a more effective team.
  • Students will be made aware of resources at UNCG and in the Greensboro community to build a team bond.

 

Emotional Intelligence

Description: How exactly do emotions influence your organization? Why do they matter? Come find out the basic principles of emotional intelligence and how to sharpen your skills at this workshop.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will be able to describe the model of Emotional Intelligence in terms of awareness and management.
  • Students will know methods to begin exploring their own emotions and how those emotions influence their actions.
  • Students will be able to explain how individual emotional reactions affect their organizations as a whole.

 

Finding Your Passion

Description: What puts a smile on your face? What makes you unafraid of failure? What would you regret not having tried? Have you asked yourself these questions? Establishing your true passion, though it might seem easy, can be quite difficult to determine. This workshop will help individuals explore their passions in order to guide their future into a world of happiness.  

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will be able to explain the meaning of passion and its relationship with their career path and personal development.
  • Students will be able to identify certain areas of interest using the Passion Assessment.
  • Students will be aware of potential next steps to take in order to live their passion(s).

 

Fundraising

Description: Effectively raising funds for an organization is one of the many elements necessary for achieving your organization’s goals. In this workshop, students will learn creative fundraising techniques to help raise awareness of and increase funding for their organization.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will be aware of the legal issues and logistics of fundraising within the UNCG student organization policies.
  • Students will understand the need for fundraising.
  • Students will learn effective fundraising strategies and how to implement them.

 

Joining an Organization

Description: Getting involved is the first step to success on any campus! We’ll give you some tips and tricks to get in wit the in-crowd and navigate your way around UNCG’s clubs and student organizations.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will learn how to get involved on UNCG’s campus
  • Student will be provided with information on how to look up the club directory
  • Student will learn the benefits of joining an organization
  • Student will learn about inclusivity in regards to the name of an organization

 

Impact without a Title

Description: Not all leadership roles are positional. Being an officer is great, but you can make an impact on your student organization or community without a title. Join us to learn more about how to get more involved with your student organization or community and ignite your leadership potential

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will be able to distinguish between an officer and a leader
  • Students will be aware that leadership is not always positional
  • Students will be able to identify ways in which they can contribute to their student organization or community without becoming an officer

 

Inspire a Shared Vision

Description: “If you don’t care where you are going, then it doesn’t matter which way you go.” ~ Lewis Carroll. A shared vision is vitally important for a group dynamic, and this quote displays the mentality many organizations hold today. Within this program, student organizations will learn how to create a shared vision by depending on each other, creating a solid commitment to the overall goal, as well as investigating the reasons their visions have failed in the past and how to resolve those failed visions.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will be able to explain the purpose of a vision and its role in an organization’s success.
  • Students will know the components of an effective vision statement and how to create buy-in into it.
  • Students will be able to create or modify their current vision statements so that they reflect the organization’s values.

 

Leadership Selection Process

Description: “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” ~ Henry Ford. Creating an effective team is extremely important for the overall success of an organization.  This program will assist the growth of your organization by taking your team to the next level. Gain knowledge regarding the basics of building an effective team and learning how to engage your team to overall effectiveness, as well as best practices for selecting individuals for the leadership positions of your student group.  

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will understand the leadership roles necessary for organizations to run smoothly.
  • Students will be able to explain strategies for choosing members to fill those leadership roles.
  • Students will be able to implement strategies for improving member engagement.

 

Leaving a Legacy

Description:  “I want it said of me by those who knew me best, that I always plucked a thistle and planted a flower where I thought a flower would grow.” ~ Abraham Lincoln. Everyone will leave a legacy.  What kind of legacy do you want to leave? This program will assist you to determine what steps to take and how to implement those steps in order to be remembered. By establishing how you want to be thought of, you will help mold the way in which you live your life.  

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will know strategies to help discover their legacy.
  • Students will understand how their legacy contributes to their community and beyond.
  • Students will be able to develop qualities and skills that are needed to be successful and leave a positive legacy.

 

Member Motivation

Description: What need is your organization supplying to its members? Why should members return each year to your organization? It is important that members do not focus only on what they are doing for their organization but, also why are they in this organization.  This workshop will discuss what motivates members to join groups and barriers that the organizations may face.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will understand the meaning of motivation and barriers that prevent it.
  • Students will learn strategies to prevent and break down motivation barriers.
  • Students will develop and implement why they are an organization.

 

Marketing Your Organization

Description: Is there a slump in your organization’s membership recruitment? Are you having difficulty being recognized on campus as a lucrative organization?  Effective marketing is a great way to provide your organization the boost it needs. This program will assist members and leaders by providing skills to creatively and successfully market to the UNCG student body.  

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will know how to target their intended market and determine their desired outcome.
  • Students will know a variety of methods to distribute marketing materials.
  • Students will understand and be provided resources (ure.uncg.edu/brandguide/) to support their marketing goals at UNCG.

 

Officer Transitioning

Description: The passing of the torch is a regular occurrence in many organizations. Whether that be board members or the president, a smooth transition is vital. This workshop demonstrates the step by step process that should be taken in order to ensure a positive transition between new and old officers.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will know the steps to take when transitioning new officers into their roles.
  • Students will understand the benefits to effective office transition.  

 

Organizational Networking & Collaboration

Description: Learn how to create and maintain relationships with other people and organizations to promote the mission of your organization. This workshop will offer different perspectives on what networking is and how it can help your organization achieve its goals.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will understand the purpose of networking and how to start the process.
  • Students will know networking methods and how to use them.
  • Students will be able to maintain network connections.

 

Professional Communication

Description:  In a world where communication is spread across a variety of mediums, it is important that effective communication skills are developed. There are a range of formats that information can be passed in the professional community. This workshop will make students aware of the different formats of communication (non-verbal, verbal and written formats), clearly define professionalism and how to apply to make their organization successful.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will understand different formats of communication.
  • Students will have a clear understanding of what professionalism is and how it is used
  • Students will be able to take that knowledge and apply it to future situations when professionalism is necessary

 

Recruitment & Retention

Description: Expanding one’s organization by gathering new members is a necessity, but retaining those members is the most important aspect. Membership retention lays the foundation to a successful organization and ultimately creates a happy environment. Within this workshop we will explore various ways to recruit new members as well as how to maintain current members and get them excited and involved. This workshop is useful for new as well as established organizations.  

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will know effective ways to increase awareness of their organization.
  • Students will be able to create activities related to their organization to increase recruitment and retention.
  • Students will know strategies to retain members.

 

Service in Student Groups

Description: Is your organization interested in doing more for our community? Are you unsure of what’s available and how to access that information? This workshop will appropriate ways to engage in community partnerships to establish and maintain positive relationships in the community. Also, organizations be made aware of what UNCG has to offer their organization

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will be able to establish relationships with community partners.
  • Students will understand the steps their organization needs to take maintain positive relationships with community partners.
  • Students will be able to access the servicer resources that UNCG offers.

 

Time & Meeting Management

Description: Ever have trouble reining in your team members or never seem to get anything done at group meetings? Attend this workshop to understand the process behind prioritizing and managing your time to help your meetings run more smoothly and efficiently.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will know steps to creating more efficient and effective meetings.
  • Students will understand the stages of a meeting process and why each stage is important.
  • Students will understand how to communicate why meetings are important and necessary to their organization.
